If you live in my house, it's time for copious amounts of coffee before starting to do such fun things as painting, html-coding, editing, etc. Hey, you guys want to come help? I'll provide the whitewash and brushes ;-p
Seriously, with so many folks away at cons and those who aren't getting ready for the start of school, things are hectic. So we're going to throw the floor open today. This will be the last time for at least a month. So, if you have anything you want to ask, anything you want to discuss, or if you just want to say, "hey!", this is your chance.
And now I leave you to it. I hear the coffeemaker AND the paintbrush calling.

"Hey!"
(Had to be done ...)
I had a kind of fun experience this week. I started the fantasy WIP a couple years ago, then it got rudely shouldered aside by the SF work that I've now submitted and am nervously awaiting feedback about. Since submitting that one, I got back to work on a couple of the (many) plot-lines in the fantasy series. This week I pulled up some of the chapters for another plot-line, stuff I haven't looked at in over two years. It was a curious blend of "Wow, I wrote that?" and "Ugh! I wrote that?".
Isn't it great to see your stuff and objectively say "That's good!"
Of course it comes with the realization that you can, and thus can't get away with the bad stuff any more.

Coming back to work after a break is always good for the work,Stephen. I've just come back to a manuscript that I thought was 'finished' and discovered there were 'What the ...' moments' where I didn't know why I'd written something.
"Explodng spaceships, elves, and dragons."
Only a corrupt and sick mind would think "I hate it when my elves explode" and start plotting around the concept. I know that's a late thought, but my mind just won't leave it alone.
ROFL!!! Pam was that "Anony-mouse" you?
On the whole, I wouldn't mind sacrificing a few elves if they take out the dragons at the same time ... hmm ... suicide-bomber-zealot-elves???
Yeah, sorry forgot the name. There's just something so seriously wrong... Although explosive *dragons* is probably inevitable, given their internal volitiles, ala Pterry.
But Elves. It's just not right.
I think they must be the slightly bumbling, trying hard to be Evil, comedic relief. One of them may be allowed to survive.
MataPam, mellowed out and still on vacation.
This morning, an elf knocked on my front door. When I opened the door, he looked up at me with gleaming silver eyes, said, "Help?" and then exploded. I knew right then that I was going to find out what was making the elves explode.
Was that supposed to be a writing challenge, Matapam?
Question -- are you sure the explosion is the *end* of the elf? Might it not be its *beginning* just as easily? As in, elves exploding *into* existence, from seed-pods or gemstones, or what-have-you? Just a (slightly-more-random-than-average) thought ...
Ooo! I like this. Like genies in bottles, the little elves explode out of their gemstones ...
But what do they do then, eh? And are the explosions energetic enough that in large quantities they are extremely dangerous? We couild have Mad Scientists working on Elf Bombs, a fantasy MAD scenario with the rough wizards as NGOs trying to break up the peace process with smuggling of Black Market Elves.
One would have to work to avoid lecturing. Perhaps an Elf rebellion, overcoming their basic nature and refusing to explode until the Mastermind returns to see what went wrong with his bomb.

Mike, I have to know what happens in the rest of that story!
Mike, Stephen, Pam ...
You guys are seriously weird in a good way!
