Open Thread

Good morning! Today is Open Thread Day. This is your chance to ask any questions or talk about what you've seen in publishing news recently. You know the rules: no politics and no in-your-face posts.

The floor is now yours. Have fun!

Don't ask. Just don't.

The usual rules apply: no politics, no hitting, and have fun.

Sorry

I was supposed to be all self-promotional and everything but spent all day offline today, and totally spaced this.

So, open thread, whatever. I can't do self promotion worth a damn anyway.

Open Thread

Good morning, everyone. Apologies for being late getting this up but I'm moving slowly this morning. In case you haven't noticed over the last couple of Saturdays, we're trying something different. We're going to use our Saturday Morning Posts to help promote our work. What that means is you'll be seeing snippets, con schedules and pictures, giveaways, etc. It also means there will be one open thread every seven weeks. Today is that day.

So, this is your chance to ask any questions you have, to comment on the state of the industry, to make predictions about what's going to happen in publishing, etc.

So the floor is yours!

Open Thread

Today, we're throwing the blog open. This is your chance to tell us what's on your mind, to ask any questions or to continue discussions begun in other entries this week. So, what's on your mind?

While you're here, check out this post by Kristine Kathryn Rusch. Any thoughts?

The floor is now yours!

If it's Saturday, it must be...

If you live in my house, it's time for copious amounts of coffee before starting to do such fun things as painting, html-coding, editing, etc. Hey, you guys want to come help? I'll provide the whitewash and brushes ;-p

Seriously, with so many folks away at cons and those who aren't getting ready for the start of school, things are hectic. So we're going to throw the floor open today. This will be the last time for at least a month. So, if you have anything you want to ask, anything you want to discuss, or if you just want to say, "hey!", this is your chance.

And now I leave you to it. I hear the coffeemaker AND the paintbrush calling.

Open Thread

Good morning, everyone, and welcome to the Saturday morning open thread. This is your chance to toss out questions, comments, and all sorts of stuff. Just remember, no spoiled fish or other stinky things. It is so hard to get the smell out of Blogger when you guys do that. Any way, there's been a lot of news in the publishing world this week if you want to talk about that. Or if you have a specific question you want to ask, here's your chance. One other thing, if there's a specific topic you want us to cover in depth, let us know.

And now, before I crawl away to find more coffee, the floor is yours!

Open Thread

Sorry for the late post, everyone. I got distracted with work and forgot to check in. Sarah is away from her computer today, so we're going to have an open thread. Anything relating to writing is fair game. If you have any comments or questions, post them and we'll do our best to answer -- or to ask more questions (We're evil that way ;-P ).

Something else to consider, if there are specific topics you'd like us to blog about, list them in the comment section. We're always looking for new ideas and inspiration for the blog.

The floor is now yours!

It's Your Turn

I'm a bit under the weather today, folks, so I'm going to throw open the blog. You can ask a question or post the first sentence or paragraph of a work in progress (but no more than the first paragraph, well, first two paragraphs). The floor is yours. I'll be checking back in every couple of hours to comment. Have fun and remember this piece of advice -- if you have sinus and allergy problems, Dallas is the Spring is not the place to be unless you like living on benadryl.

Edit: Here are a couple of topics I'll throw out:
  • Should you be able to download the e-book of a novel for free if you've already bought the hardcover of the book? How would you prove purchase?
  • What is the deciding factor for you in reading a new author?

Open Thread

Hey there. Looks like the creative muse must have hit John today and I'm hoping he's busy putting words to paper, or at least hard drive. So I'm going to throw the blog open to any and all comers. You know the rules. No politics, religion or anything else likely to start a fight -- unless it's critical to writing.

Let us know what's on your mind. Is there anything you want us to discuss? Better yet, if you've got an opening couple of paragraphs -- no more than 3 -- you want input on, post in the comments.

The floor is now yours.

While the Monkey Clan Unpacks

For those of you who don't know, the Monkey Clan finally got the various crates, boxes and who knows what all delivered to their new home on Flinders Island. Well, all except "the rock". So Dave and Barbs are busy unpacking and trying to figure out where everything should go in their new home. You can check out their progress here.

In the meantime, it's open thread day. The usual rules apply. No politics. No religion. No barroom brawls -- at least not without adequate provocation ;-p

So, shall we start this off by wondering what dastardly adventures the Monkey Clan has gotten into this time?

Your life is on hold, we apologize for the inconvenience

So, it's been the day from hell today. My employers, a company of just under 100 people, bit the bullet and started the layoffs. All day, waiting to find out where the axe would land, and on whom. We are now a company of 85 people, and hope to still exist this time next year.

Right now, I'm hoping that I've managed to get the worst day of the year over with - and I was one of the survivors. I really feel for those who are now facing an ugly job market and putting their lives back together. Work, whatever it is you do, becomes a very large part of your life - and for writers, working a regular job of some description is usually part of the territory.

Since I'm not in any state to write a post, much less a coherent one, it's open thread time. A few thoughts to kick it off - what are you hoping this year will bring? Any bright shiny new things to discuss? Wonderful new toys?

As always, please stay away from the tar pits, especially the ones with the signs labeled "Contemporary Politics" and "Contemporary Religion". They bite.

The elves have kidnapped Sarah

and she's being forced to finish off the Christmas gifts for several universes, so it's open thread time.

As usual, keep it away from political and other hot button topics, and have fun. If you want to speculate about how Sarah's characters would celebrate, feel free...

Saturday Special Open Discussion

Thanksgiving is over and hopefully those who celebrated are coming out from under their turkey-induced comas. With all the stores, both brick and mortar and cyber, offering Black Friday and Monday Madness deals, I thought I'd throw open the doors today. So the floor is yours. Is there anything you want to ask or discuss? Perhaps there's something you're thankful for you want to share. Whatever it is, now's your chance to let us know.

As always, the only rule is no politics or religion unless it has to do with a story you want to discuss or ask questions about. Even then, remember, we discuss the story and not the politics of it.
