Most of the time we writers view the world through our little window, while we tap away on our keyboards.
Once a year, if we're lucky we escape to an SF convention, once every 10 years, if you live in Australia, you can escape to a World SF Con!
Aussiecon 4 is being held in Melbourne, September 2nd to 6th, 2010.
I went to the last Aussiecon in 99 and the one before in 85 and I just missed the one in 75. I arrived in Melbourne at the tender age of 18 in 76, and thought nothing of moving halfway across Australia and branching out on my own (with Paul Collins).
So I've I've been a member of Fandom attending conventions for almost 35 years. And I'm still having fun!
Here's the link to the Worldcon program.
Dave, Kate and Chris and I will be there. If you are in Australia or are planning to come to Australia for the World SF Con and would like to catch up in person, leave a comment and we'll try to organise a time and place!

Well I shall certainly be floating arround
Great, Brendan.
Dave, what panels are you on? Maybe we could meet after one of your panels?
I will be there, possibly volunteering at the rego desk, or sitting at the Continuum table, or the Browncoats...
Or knitting or spinning (drop spindle) while listening to a panel.
I so need a time-turner...
I'm looking forward to catching up with everyone who's going to be there.
Alas, I'm not a well enough known Mad Genius to be a participant - yet. I'll show them, I will! MUAHAHAHAHAHAaaaaaa ::ahem::
Anywho, I'll see you there.
wanted to be there. No can has enough money! Not this year.
I got my train ticket on Sunday and my hotel has been booked for a while.
All I need to do now is get packing.
Looking forwards to attending some sessions with MGC speakers.
Laine
I shall be:
Thu 1 pm, Borders South Wharf, 20 Convention Centre place, South Wharf - Where I have been invited to a book launch. I gather it's open house - but if you're going to come, let me know and I'll pass it on.
Thu 1500 Rm 201: Signing
Thu 1700 Rm 216: The imaginary zoo: creating fictional wildlife;
Fri 1300 Rm 207: Reading;
Sun 1000 Rm 207: The problems with first contact;
Sun 1600 Rm 204: Where do elves come from?;
Monday I have a panel after I leave.
I imagine the signing will be... quiet. Love to see people for a chat (never mind the signing part)
The reading is the same time as Baen promotion. Trying to change it.
I will be going to the SFWA party (probably) and the Continuum 7 Launch party (once they tell me where it is.
I'd love to meet people from the list.
Rowena - a morning meeting?
Rowena, Chris, Kate what are your schedules?
I am still waiting to hear back from programming - so I don't know what panels I'm doing at this stage.
I'll be there from Thu-Mon night (flying out early Tue morning), so there should be plenty of opportunities to catch up.
Dave: Is Jim Minz coming out for the Baen roadshow?
Chris - I don't think so. Just Toni Weisskopf.
Fair enough. I have not met Toni, so that will be good. It will be fun to get a few of our little cyber-community together in the flesh. Maybe we should all come to your signing Dave so we can heckle from the back:)
Kesalemma - I'll look out for you when I drop by the registration table. What name will you have on your name badge?
Kate, we must make a time and place to catch up!
Sarah, but you get to go to all the World Cons in the US. We only get them in Australia once every 10 years.
Laine,
Another MGCer coming to World Con. Great!
Chris, not everyone will be in on Thursday. How about Friday after Dave's reading?
Fiday after Dave's reading sound like a plan.
